Get Ready, Assess, Teach: Reach Every Student
Step-by-step training on how to deliver differentiated reading instruction within the Daily 5 classroom, where students work and learn independently. How to use the Literacy CAFE System to accelerate student progress in Comprehension, Accuracy, Fluency, and Expanding Vocabulary (CAFE). The day will include:
- Transforming lengthy whole-group lessons into brain-compatible focus lessons that target students’ individual needs as readers
- Methods and resources for assessing students on a routine basis
- Components of a literacy block, including focus lessons, small-group lessons, and individual conferences
- Building accountability into individual and group interactions
New insights on matching students with strategies that develop strong readers:
- Creating the classroom CAFE Menu board your students post on all year as they learn new strategies
- Protocol for goal-directed one-on-one conferences
- How to organize and manage whole-group instruction
- Enlisting families to reinforce learning strategies at home
